Chucks Obidaniel, 28, gave detectives a mouth swab after he was caught in possession of cannabis during a stop-and-search in east London.

The sample was sent to the national DNA databank and the results put Obidaniel in the frame for the rape of a 32-year-old virgin from Eire.

And one-time hot boxing prospect Obidaniel wept and looked up to the heavens muttering ‘God is alive’ as he was jailed for a total of 11 years today.

Earlier this month he was led hollering and screaming from the dock after a jury convicted him of the attack.

Passing sentence Judge Martin Stephens, QC, told the powerfully-built Nigerian, who came to England seven years ago: ‘In September 1997 you abducted your victim in the street, forced her into your car and when she tried to defend herself you threatened her with a gun.

‘You then drove her around and finally raped her.

She was a lesbian and found sexual acts with a man particularly abhorrent.

‘Through the wonders of modern science and the professional skills of those who set up the DNA database you were caught in the year 2000.

‘I take into account you have no previous convictions and were making your way as a boxer but all this has gone as a result of your wanton behaviour.

‘

Obidaniel put his victim through a terrifying gunpoint sex ordeal in his mother’s car after asking her for directions.

After punching the woman in the face Obidaniel pulled her into the vehicle and imprisoned her inside by switching on the central locking.

Obidaniel then ripped off her knickers and raped her before dumping her out in the street.

Miss Sandy Kanavan, prosecuting, said after the attack back in September 1997 he drove off and evaded justice for more than two years.

When he was arrested by police for cannabis possession in December 1999 he was rated one of the best Cruiserweights in Britain.

He was just about to compete in his first professional bout.

‘Police took a mouth swab and sent it off to the national DNA databank,’ Miss Kanavan explained.

The jury heard that the sample matched an intimate sample recovered from the woman back in 1997.

‘There is a one in 14 million chance it is not his,’ said Kanavan.

When he was first interviewed last August the defendant maintained that he had only ever had sex with two white woman – and the complainant in this case was not one of them.

However, Obidaniel later accepted that he had sexual intercourse with the lesbian but he maintained during his evidence that it was consensual.

Miss Kanavan said on September 22, 1997, the woman had spent the evening drinking with friends in a gay bar in Stoke Newington.

‘She was merry but not drunk.

‘

At the end of the evening she headed home but on the way a white car pulled alongside her and the driver asked her for directions.

‘Acting as a Good Samaritan she went over to give him directions.

‘

But Obidaniel suddenly grabbed the woman’s arm and punched her in the face causing cuts.

‘She was bleeding, frightened and confused by what happened,’ continued the prosecutor.

‘She was pulled into the car and he pulled back the lever in the passenger seat so she fell back.

‘

He then used central locking to imprison her.

Obidaniel then told her: ‘I’m going to take you somewhere to make love with you.

‘

He then drove to a quiet spot, pulled down his trousers and ripped off her knickers.

The woman even claimed she had AIDS to try and stop him but Obidaniel allegedly laughed and said ‘she was lying and that he knew she was a lesbian.

‘

She denied the suggestion but he replied: ‘I know you are one.

‘

Even then the woman bravely put up a struggle as Obidaniel grew ‘more and more angry.

‘

‘Eventually he said if she gave him any more trouble he would kill her,’ continued Miss Kanavan.

‘He said he would shoot her.

‘

The defendant then produced a pistol and pointed it at her head, the jury heard.

The woman then gave up her fight and Obidaniel raped her.

Afterwards she was so desperate to be freed by Obidaniel that she offered him pnds stlg 1,000.

But eventually he dropped her off near her home.

The distraught woman later told a close friend about her ordeal and she was advised to report the attack to police.

But Obidaniel was not arrested until December 1999.

The jury took some four hours to unanimously convict Obidaniel of rape, false imprisonment and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence.

Obidaniel, of Bethnal Green, east London, denied the charges.
