DOUGLAS: JILTED LOVER KILLED EX’S NEW FLAME

A jilted lover stabbed his ex-girlfriend’s new flame to death after finding him in her bedroom, the Old Bailey heard today (Tues).
Damion (CORR) Douglas, 24, attacked Kemar Duhaney, 21, with a kitchen knife at former partner Sheloney Johnson’s east London home.
Mr Duhaney chased the attacker out into the street brandishing a wooden mop but Douglas lunged ‘like a boxer’ and inflicted a fatal stab wound to his chest, jurors were told.
The pair had a history of bad blood and had to be dragged apart at a Diamond Jubilee party weeks earlier after Douglas threatened his rival with a glass bottle, it is alleged.
Douglas is on trial for murder, having already admitted the less serious charge of manslaughter.
He and Ms Johnson, 21, had an 11-month-old daughter together but had separated around four months before the killing and she had taken up with former partner Mr Duhaney.
On the morning of last July 11, Douglas had been looking after the little girl at his mother’s home and went to Ms Johnson’s house in nearby Buxhall Crescent, Hackney Wick, to ask for some nappies.
Prosecutor Duncan Atkinson said: ‘Possibly because he spotted property belonging to Mr Duhaney in the hallway, he then went upstairs, saying he needed to use the toilet.
‘It was there he encountered Mr Duhaney and having seen him he then went back downstairs and into the kitchen.
‘Ms Johnson could hear the sound of the kitchen being – in her words – ransacked, with the sound of knives and cutlery.’
Douglas ran back upstairs carrying a kitchen knife and ordered Ms Johnson out of the way when she tried to block his path into the bedroom.
‘The defendant, who had been downstairs to fetch the knife and come back up again with it, then tried to slash Mr Duhaney’s chest with the knife,’ said Mr Atkinson.
But he was forced to retreat after the victim launched a chair, he added.
After being goaded by Douglas, Mr Duhaney ran out after him into the street, where neighbours watched them brawling.
‘They saw the defendant moving like a boxer,’ said Mr Atkinson, ‘looking for an opportunity to strike.
‘And strike he did, for they then saw the defendant stab Mr Duhaney to his left chest before running away.’
Mr Duhaney, from Bruce Grove, Tottenham, north London, died in hospital later the same day.
Douglas, of Ballance Road, Homerton, denies murder but has admitted manslaughter.
He will claim he did not intend to cause the victim serious injury, the court has been told.
The trial continues.
