NORRIS: STABBED PAEDOPHILE FACES JAIL
A paedophile who was stabbed outside court is facing jail for sexually abusing a girl for over a decade.
Charles Norris, 60, was attacked by an unidentified knifeman as he made his way to Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London last Thursday, 8 September.
The attacker is believed to have got out of a car before hitting him around the head and stabbing him the arm.
Norris staggered into the court’s main reception, where shocked staff called an ambulance, and he was subsequently taken to Whipps Cross Hospital.
He was treated for minor injuries and his trial resumed after a delay of just two days. Police are investigating the assault.
Norris now faces jail after the jury found him guilty of all 11 charges he faced.
Judge Simon Wilkinson remanded him in custody ahead of sentence on October 12.
It emerged the roofer has a previous conviction for indecent exposure dating back to 1969, when he flashed at women on the North Circular Road outside Epping Forest.
Norris subjected his victim to sickening abuse on countless occasions between 1979 and 1990.
The attacks began when she was just five years old and continued until she was 16.
Manipulative Norris continued to torment his victim years later when she was an adult by lying about his health.
He told her that he had leukaemia and testicular cancer, and even tried to fake his own suicide.
But he was finally arrested after she told police in March last year about the catalogue of vile abuse she had suffered at his hands.
During his trial, Norris told the jury simply: ‘It never happened.’
Michael Shaw, prosecuting, asked him: ‘So everyone’s lying and you are telling the truth?’
He agreed, adding: ‘Well, you can add perjury to your list of faults.’
Norris’ lies were exposed partly thanks to a second girl, who told the court that he molested her in 1976.
The defendant did not face a charge in relation to that youngster but the prosecution was allowed to call ‘similar fact evidence.’
Norris, of Richard Fell House, Walton Road, Manor Park, east London, denied nine counts of indecency with a child and two counts of indecent assault.
He was convicted by majority verdicts of 11 to one on eight of the charges, including those of indecent assault, and 10 to two on the remaining counts.
