DONNAN: BUSINESSMEN FACE MONEY LAUNDERING RETRIAL
A property magnate and a Dubai-based diamond dealer accused of laundering cash stolen in a massive £31 million revenue fraud were today facing a retrial.
John Donnan, 51, and Jason Bridden, 34, allegedly allowed fraudsters to make use of their offshore bank accounts during a 16-month VAT scam.
Their trial on money laundering charges, which started almost six weeks ago, was brought to a halt amid concerns over Donnan’s health.
The parties will meet at Southwark Crown Court next week to discuss possible dates for a retrial.
Australian-born Donnan, 51, of Watersfield Way, Edgware, Middlesex, denies 19 counts of concealing or disguising the proceeds of criminal property between August 23, 2001 and December 5, 2002.
Jason Bridden, 34, of Rose Farm House, Blyth Road, Oldcotes, Nottinghamshire, denies four similar counts.
