‘Murdered in front of schoolchildren’
A teenager murdered a 16-year-old boy with a machete in front of a group of school
children, a court heard.
Carlton Tanueh, 18, attacked Tyler Hurley on the Route 173 bus on High Road, Chadwell Heath, east London, on 14 March, it is claimed.
Prosecutor Benjamin Holt told the Old Bailey: ‘He is at this court charged with one offence of murder and two associated offences of possession of an offensive weapon.
‘The bus pulls up at a bus stop [where] there are a group of school children waiting to get on the bus.’
This group included Mr Hurley, the prosecutor said.
Mr Holt said Tanueh pulled out a ‘machete style knife’ before rushing forward to stab Mr Hurley.
Police arrested him the same day.
‘Mr Hurley suffered a single stab wound to the right arm which pierced his chest cavity,’ Mr Holt said.
‘Life was pronounced extinct at five past four in the morning on 15 March this year.
‘The defendant was interviewed on 15 March, he replied no comment to all questions.
‘He was then charged on 16 March.’
Judge Simon Mayo, QC, remanded the 18-year-old in custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on 6 June.
Tanueh, of no fixed address, faces murder and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon.
