A ‘close friend’ of mortally wounded Damon Donalds
A ‘close friend’ of mortally wounded Damon Donaldson desperately attempted to staunch blood gushing from a stab wound in a bid to save the teenager’s life, a jury heard today (Monday).
Anthony Small used basic first aid by applying pressure to the injury while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
He told London’s Southwark Crown Court at the same time alleged murderess Lisa Higgs was ‘hysterical’ after she is said to have stabbed 18-year-old Donaldson in the chest.
The dead man met Higgs at a Basingstoke nightclub two days before the incident.
The next night the couple and three of his friends had travelled to Southampton clubbing, returning in the small hours to Higgs’ home.
She agreed to drop stocky six-footer Donaldson, who sported a shaved head and goatee beard, and his friends off at the nearest railway station.
But then the 27-year-old claimed someone had been light-fingered and removed pnds stlng 45 from her handbag – demanding the cash be returned as the mood turned ugly.
‘She was very irate,’ said Mr Small, who shared a Basingstoke home with Donaldson.
He admitted he did not see the stabbing but heard someone shout ‘oh shit’ and returned to see Higgs and Donaldson facing each other.
‘His hands were on his chest, on the right side.
His face was distorted with pain,’ said Mr Small.
‘It looked as if he was going to fall so I grabbed him.
Blood was coming from his hands.
.
.
there was a lot of blood.
‘I cushioned his fall down to the floor.
He didn’t say anything.
He was
breathing very heavily, I could hear air coming from his chest – gurgling and spluttering.
‘
Mr Small said he managed to drag Donaldson outside while another of the party ‘phoned an ambulance.
‘He said the ambulance people said to put pressure on the wound – which I was already doing anyhow.
‘
The trial continues.
