A surgeon at the centre of the Bristol baby heart scandal had his ban on operating extended today.

They also added a further condition that he is not to carry out heart surgery on adults unless under supervision

Announcing the ruling GMC chairman Professor Ken Hobbs said that the pending results of a public enquiry into the scandal are ‘not relevant’ to the hearing at the GMC.

Prof Hobbs told Dhasmana: ‘The current condition on your registration expires on July 20 this year.

‘We have considered whether to allow your case to conclude on that date, and we have decided, for the protection of the public that this would be inappropriate.

‘

Dhasmana was told that he should take the opportunity to continue his rehabilitation in heart surgery.
