Ban for nurse who encouraged mentally ill man to harm himself

A nurse who encouraged a psychiatric patient to hurt himself has been suspended for 12 months. Francis Atando was a senior mental health nurse in an intensive unit at the Priory Hospital Woodburne, Birmingham, when he found the patient kicking a window. Atando swore at him, encouraged him to keep lashing out and said if he hurt himself he would not be treated.
