Bus firm fined for diesel tank horror

A bus operator has been fined £600,000 after a bus garage engineer plunged to his death while working alone on top of a diesel tank. Michael Porter, 56, fell backwards off a ladder while cleaning the tank at the Peckham bus garage in southeast London on 26 May 2011. There was no scaffolding in place and the bungee cord he was using to secure himself gave way, Southwark Crown Court heard. Mr Porter fell more than three metres and died…
