Dutch terrorist faked degree certificate to try and get bail
A Dutch terrorist who shared IS propaganda featuring preachers of hate and beheadings is facing jail.
Ali Abdisalam Sheikh Abdillahi, 30, posted the extremist material on a channel he created on an instant messaging app in July 2020.
This material included recordings of an Islamist extremist preacher who advocates armed jihad, and two ISIS propaganda videos showing executions and graphic violence.
The titles of the publications included ‘The constants in the path of Jihad’ and a video called ‘Flames of War 2’.
The material is also said to include speeches from ISIS-affiliated clerik Sheikh Abu Malik Al-Tamimi and Al Qaeda recruiter Anwar al-Awlaki.
Abdillahi of Colgate Place, Enfield, was arrested by officers at his home address on 7 August 2020 and charged 11 days later.
He admitted to five counts of disseminating a terrorist publication, contrary to section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006, at Woolwich Crown Court yesterday (Tues)– the second day of his trial.
Abdillahi earlier admitted perverting the course of justice, and fraud – charges relating to a fraudulent university degree certificate used to gain employment, and, unsuccessfully apply for bail for the terrorism charges.
Commander Richard Smith, who leads the Counter Terrorism Command, said: ‘Extremist propaganda online is extremely harmful and is a means by which terrorist groups seek to radicalise people all over the world.
‘Abdillahi sent videos and recordings glorifying extremist violence, to promote the hate-filled mindset he supported to others.
‘COVID-19 restrictions were in force when the investigation was launched, but this did not stop officers acting quickly and building a strong case against Abdillahi.”
He will be sentenced for all the offences on 16 December.
