Father and brother in court for ‘helping fight against ISIS’
A father and brother of a British man fighting against ISIS in Syria have appeared at the Old Bailey today (FRI) accused of helping him out and sending him cash.
Paul Newey, 49, and Samuel Newey, 19, are accused of aiding 27-year-old Daniel Newey while he fought the extremist death cult with Kurdish militias.
According to the charges Paul sent £50 followed by £100 between 3 and 7 November 2019 while Samuel is said to have assisted his elder brother between 1 and 7 of the same month.
The pair appeared today (fri) over video link from Birmingham Crown Court at the Old Bailey with their counsel.
Mr Justice Sweeney said a provisional trial date had been set for 8 June at Birmingham Crown Court, but a plea and trial preparation hearing will be held at the Old Bailey on 1 May.
Confirming their names and ages, Paul gave his identity as British while his son added he was white British.
Both from Milcote Road Solihull, they were granted conditional bail ahead of the next hearing.
Paul faces a single charge of entering into a funding arrangement with cause to suspect the money was going towards terrorism while, Samuel allegedly assisted in the preparation of terrorist acts.
