KADIR: ALLEGED WIFE KILLER APPEARS IN COURT

A father-of-two accused of strangling his wife with a scarf was refused bail at the Old Bailey today (MON).

Abdul Kadir, 45, is charged with the murder of 29 year-old Mumtahina Jannat in East Ham, east London, on July 5.

Police were called to the couple’s home in Kempton Road at around 1pm to find the victim lying dead on the bedroom floor.

She had a scarf wrapped tightly around her throat and a postmortem later gave cause of death as asphyxia and compression of the neck.

Kadir, who came to the UK from Bangladesh in 2001, appeared in court for a bail hearing.

Judge Richard Hawkins QC refused the application and remanded him in custody.

Kadir, of [118] Kempton Road, East Ham, east London, will return to court for a plea and case management hearing in September.
