Perverted pensioner may have his legs amputated

A pensioner has admitted indecently assaulting a boy more than 40 years ago.

Alan Barton, 69, molested the lad between 1 November 1979 and 30 November 1979.

Barton is in very poor health and might have to have his legs amputated, Isleworth Crown Court heard.

The bald and bushy-bearded senior citizen appeared in court via video link to admit indecent assault.

Darren Samat, defending, said Barton is in extremely poor health and could, ‘potentially have an operation that carries the risk of having his legs amputated.’

Mr Samat asked if it were possible for Barton, from Derbyshire, to be sentenced at his local crown court to avoid extensive travel but this was rejected by judge Fiona Barrie.

‘I think he should be before the court,’ the judge said.

Barton was also charged with buggery and attempted buggery.

He denied those charges and the prosecution said his plea was acceptable and asked for the attempted buggery charge to lie on file and offered no evidence for the buggery charge.

Judge Barrie formally entered a not guilty plea for the buggery charge.

She adjourned sentencing for six weeks for medical reports and a pre-sentence report.

Barton’s bail was also extended.

She warned the pervert ‘all options are on the table’ and he could receive an immediate custodial sentence for the historic offence.

The court heard he has previous convictions in 1984 for similar offences.

Barton, of Ilkeston, Derbyshire, admitted indecent assault.

He will be sentenced at a later date.
