SMITH: NO DICE FOR NEVADA APPEAL
A Skipton fraudster who conned a vulnerable recluse out of thousands of pounds in savings today failed in an Appeal Court challenge to his convictions.
Nevada Abraham Barry Smith, 30, extracted huge sums from 66-year-old retired Ilkley school teacher Douglas Wilkinson, telling him he was doing expensive work on his home.
Last December, Smith, of Lowlaith Lane, Snaygill, was jailed for six years after he was convicted at Bradford Crown Court of fraud and five money laundering offences.
Today, his legal team tried to overturn the convictions, but were told by three senior judges that there was nothing wrong in the way the trial proceeded
