Tory’s 5k tax fiddle lands him in jail

An aspiring Conservative politician has been jailed for three years and nine months for a £500,000 cheat on the taxman. Stephen McKenzie, 49, claimed huge VAT repayments while his business ICU Global Ltd was operating at a loss between 2008 and 2013. McKenzie told HMRC and his accountants he had personally covered his VAT liabilities with earnings from European government agencies and organisations including the University of Reading and China Telecom.
