A deranged man who killed the ‘demons’ who had bee

A deranged man who killed the ‘demons’ who had been taunting
him by torching his flat has been detained in a mental hospital
without limit of time.

Kenneth Mullen, 25, was so proud of what he had done he went
to a nearby police station to boast about it – but a sudden new
attack of demons kept him out.

Mullen, a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, later told a
staff member at the mental hospital he attends in Homerton that
he had done a ‘terrible thing’ by setting fire to his flat.

His confession was dismissed as deranged babble until news
reached the hospital of the blaze in Mullen’s flat on the
Trelawney Estate, Frampton Park Road, Homerton.

Mullen later told police: ‘I heard voices and they told me
to kill myself.

I saw demons and heard demonic voices I had
never heard before.

‘I burnt down my flat trying to get rid of them.

‘
At the Old Bailey he admitted arson for the September
4 blaze this year, which caused pnds stlng 2,400 damage.

Judge Kenneth Richardson QC told him: ‘I’m quite sure you
are seriously ill.

‘In your own interests and for the protection of the public,
you need to be detained in a mental hospital without limit of
time.
