A retired bus driver wept at the Old Bailey as he was
jailed for twelve-years for systematically abusing his four
daughters.

Two of the 53-year-old pervert’s victims were forced
to have abortions after being made pregnant by him during thirteen
years of foul behaviour.

Judge Brian Smedley, QC, told the weeping man: ‘The
picture that has emerged, for which the jury have found you guilty,
is one of the most appalling abuse of these young children.

‘
The girls were between seven and 18 when the father
started to molest them.

One was just 13 when she had an abortion.

She came home
from hospital and said: ‘Mum’s really upset.

Dad will have to
look after me because it’s his fault I’m pregnant.

‘
The father would blackmail the girls into having sex
with him refusing to allow them out if they turned down his
sickening advances.

One of the daughters told the court that she could not
remember a time when he was not having sex with her.

The victim, now 29, said the father would either go to
the girl’s bedroom or call them into the living room, then force
them to have sex.

‘He would use vaseline and say it would prevent me
becoming pregnant,’ she told the court.

She said she had not seen him having sex with her
sisters, but added: ‘I heard the same noises and sounds he made
with me.

‘I could see the movements of his body in my sister’s
bed.

I had enough commonsense to assume what was going on.

‘
As she grew older she tried to stop him but said: ‘It
became a thing of blackmail.

I would say no, I didn’t want sex
with him.

‘If I wanted to go out he would say no because I said
no to him.

It started becoming a vicious circle.

‘
After she left the family’s Walthamstow home she began
to see a counsellor and plucked up the courage to reveal the
family’s terrible secret in September last year.

The man branded his daughters liars in court and claimed
that they had been told to make the allegations against him by his
ex-wife.

But the jury unanimously rejected his story and found
the man guilty of four charges of incest and three of rape between
March 1973 and December 1986.

He was cleared of just one charge of incest.

The man, who still maintains his innocence, tearfully
shook his head as the judge told him: ‘I accept that over the
years you have been a hard working man.

‘I take into account your age, I take into account
the probability the sentence I impose will to some extent have to
be served under Rule 47 and you will be virtually in solitary
confinement.

‘But the fact remains, for this dreadful pattern of
behaviour the sentence of the court has to be a substantial one.
