The mother of a 13-year-old collapsed sobbing at the
Old Bailey as a jury convicted her former lover on Monday of
raping his stepdaughter as a present for her first teenage
birthday.

A female member of the jury also burst into tears when
the court heard how the 36-year-old Stamford Hill minicab driver
had sexually assaulted his 15-year-old sister-in-law
in 1976.

The teenager’s mother cried uncontrollably, her sobs
muffled by the supporting embrace of a friend as the guilty
verdict was read out.

As the jury announced not guilty verdicts on four other
charges of indecent assault and indecency with a child the two
simply gasped ‘Oh my God’.

The convicted rapist showed no emotion.

He will not be sentenced until November 25, to allow
pre-sentence reports to drawn up.

The court heard how the man had ordered his stepdaughter
to take off her knickers on her 13th birthday and lie on his bed.

When she asked why, he said angrily ‘Do it’ before raping
her and saying this was to be her ‘birthday present’.

Soon after, the teenager wrote an anguished note which
relayed her torment and desire to escape the abuse by running away.

The note said ‘I love you Mum.

Dad made me sex.

P.

S.

I love my two brothers’.

It was accidentally found by the girl’s mother, who
immediately phoned police.

Medical tests showed that the girl had contracted a
sexually transmitted disease which was also evident when her
mother was tested.

‘The girl was sharing a sexual partner with her mother,’
the prosecutor said.

A pubic hair found high in the girl’s vagina also matched
that of the defendant and her hymen was torn and showed signs of
penile penetration.

When interviewed by police, the convicted rapist said
the teenager’s claims could not be true because he was ’99 percent
sure she was still a virgin’.

Giving evidence, he denied only penetrating the girl half-
way to cover his tracks and ensure her hymen remained intact.

Two other charges of indecent assault were dropped on
direction of Judge John Rogers QC.
