A sex beast accused of continuously raping a girl
A sex beast accused of continuously raping a girl over a 13-year period and murdering two of her babies told the Old Bailey today (thurs) how he abandoned his own son in the park – even though the tot had his features.
Factory manager Stephen Logan, 35, recalled how he dumped the tiny infant in Bedford Park in 1993 after the girl conceived the baby in the bath when she was just 14.
But Logan went onto tell the jury that he did nothing to harm his son.
The naked tiny tot was gnawed by animals after he was left to perish.
At the time of the tragic find the baby’s identity was unknown.
But last September Logan was arrested and charged with the murder of the boy after the baby’s mum accused him of years of abuse.
The Crown allege that after the girl gave birth a second time Logan drove that baby to Manchester and left him on a doorstep.
And when his sex abuse victim gave birth a THIRD time, he again disposed of the infant, the court heard.
But giving evidence Logan said the girl was lying about two other babies.
Yesterday (wed) he admitted first having sex when the girl was only 11 but claimed that she initiated the act.
He said after sex he ‘felt very upset’ adding:
‘I liked her very much but not in that sort of way.
‘
When the girl first put weight on he said he consulted a medical encyclopaedia and concluded she was pregnant.
But it was too late for an abortion, he said.
Logan said he advised the girl to ‘wear baggy clothing’ so their secret was not found out.
But he claimed he told her to improve her diet and eat more fruit and veg.
Logan denied ever punching her in the stomach or doing anything else to kill the unborn child.
The night before the girl conceived Logan said he pulled his car into a sideroad, pushed the seats down and covered them with plastic sheets.
The girl did not give birth and the pair went into the girl’s house.
Logan said he got some nylon sheets and laid them on a bed.
The girl did not give birth and Logan ran a bath for her, the jury heard.
She got in and Logan said he left the room but returned when he heard the girl coughing.
He told the court how he went back in and ‘saw the baby’s head poking out.
‘
Logan said the umbilical cord ‘looked like a piece of spring wire’.
Logan continued: ‘I just had a flow of emotion.
I felt excitement, like joy I suppose.
I was the father and I really wanted to be a father, so here it was.
‘I was holding a child I was part of and had brought into this world.
‘
Logan said he saw a resemblance between the boy’s face and his own.
But the baby’s mother showed no emotion, he claimed.
‘But she turned her head towards the wall.
It upset me but I couldn’t say anything to her.
‘
He told the court she said ‘take it away’ – making Logan feel angry about her ‘attitude.
‘
Logan said he rested the baby on the towels.
Logan realised his preparation wasn’t good as he didn’t have the string he needed to tie the umbilical cord.
He went to get string to tie the umbilical cord and using scissors he said he followed the procedure in the textbook.
Logan said he took the baby while the girl looked away and put it in a shoebox with a couple of towels.
He told the teenager he was going to take the baby to Bedford Hospital.
At the time he said that the baby did not make any movement or noise at all.
He then put the baby in a bag and drove off in his car towards the hospital.
‘I loved the child,’ he continued.
‘It had features like mine.
I just couldn’t take my eyes off it.
‘
Asked why he did not keep the tot Logan replied: ‘I felt like keeping it but I didn’t know what to do.
‘There were also interests at stake such as the girl’s.
‘
But Logan blamed the girl, adding: ‘I believe if she had shown some emotion there might have been some change.
‘
Driving to the hospital, Logan said he was concerned about cameras and decided not to leave the baby at the South Wing.
But he said the North Wing thought it looked too ‘isolated.
‘
So instead he went to the park where he saw a path with several people walking on it.
‘I thought this would be a good place.
I took the baby and rested it on the ground.
‘
Logan then walked back to his car.
‘I almost cried on the way back,’ he said.
‘I felt sick in my stomach.
I felt gutted,’ he added.
Logan then went to his job as a junior production manager at a plastic factory called Plysu Brands – where he supervised plastic moulding.
Later, back at the flat, he said they both started crying after they heard that the baby had been found in the park.
Logan said he told her: ‘This should never again happen.
‘
‘She nodded her head and said yes.
‘
Asked if he had done anything to kill the baby, Logan quietly replied: ‘Nothing.
‘
And quizzed over whether he wanted the baby to die he said: ‘Well I don’t know if it was alive.
‘If she had given birth to a live child, the child would be either with her or somebody else and I would be punished,’ he told the court.
‘There was no way I could take the life of a live child.
No way.
‘
But he claimed the girl went ‘back to normal as if nothing had happened.
‘
Logan then detailed how their sex life continued until his arrest last year.
But he denied that the girl was ever pregnant in 1997 or the following year.
Logan, originally from Kempton in Bedford, denies two murders, endeavouring to conceal a birth by seeking to dispose of a baby’s body, and nine charges of rape.
The trial continues.
