Psion Organiser killer Gary Debruin made a dramatic witness box confession today (Thurs) after he claimed the bloody events of his wife’s death had been gradually coming back to him in recurring flashbacks
Debruin, 35, broke down in tears after nearly two hours in the witness box and admitted that his recollection of the frenzied slaughter was partly triggered by reading a Jeffrey Archer story while on remand.
In tears, Debruin told Inner London Crown Court: ‘Knowing what I’ve done is disgusting.
It’s intolerable.
Sick.
It’s a madman.
‘
He said the killing has been coming back to him in flashbacks since he read a Matter of Honour by Jeffrey Archer in February in which one character shoots another.
Earlier Debruin had assassinated his dead wife’s character in court, telling the jury she screamed at kids for every misdemeanour – and ‘all hell breaking loose’ over the slightest provocation.
Just one hour before his confession he told the court: ‘I’ve never struck anybody in my life, I’ve never hit anybody.
I don’t believe in violence.
‘
Debruin had told police that his nagging wife Belinda, 33, had constantly moaned to him about their finances and made him do all the housework.
Debruin, who earnt pnds stlg 28,000 a year as a salesman for a printing company, stabbed her more than 100 times with a screwdriver after planning the murder on his Psion Organiser.
Debruin, who tried to make the death look like a violent burglary, left a chilling list on the computer with references to ‘throwt’ – for throat – ‘rubber gloves’, ‘take telephone off hook’ and ‘purse with contents spread about.
‘
Debruin, of (19) Dover Court Gardens, Stanmore, Middlesex, denies murder on December 1, 1999 and the trial continues.
