A Scary Spice lookalike who lashed out at a police
A Scary Spice lookalike who lashed out at a policeman when he tried to eject a busker from an underground station escaped jail today (THURS).
Naomi Rose, a dead ringer for the girl band star, flipped as officers tried to throw a musician out of Bond Street tube.
The 19-year-old showed her own brand of ‘Girl Power’ by sticking up for the busker and shouting at police to leave him alone.
But she fell foul of the law by turning violent and kicking a Pc before slapping him in the chest with her shopping bag.
And a judge today told her: ‘You should be deeply ashamed.
‘
Southwark Crown Court heard student Rose was travelling down an escalator at the station on October 21 last year when officers rushed past her.
The police had been asked by underground staff to speak to well-known busker ‘Sylvester the Cat’ and move him on.
But Rose stuck up for the entertainer and screamed: ‘Leave him alone, why don’t you? The travelling public like them, and you just want to nick them.
‘
Pc Alistair McLeod warned her to be quiet, but when she carried on shouting he arrested her.
Rose then lashed out, kicking Pc McLeod in the shin and hitting his body.
He told the court: ‘She struck me across my chest with her handbag and shopping bag.
‘
It was also alleged that Rose hurled racist abuse at Scottish Mr McLeod and a Barbados-born officer.
But she was cleared of racially aggravated harassment by the jury.
Giving her a two-year conditional discharge for common assault, the judge Mr Recorder David Spens, QC, said: ‘This case represents, on any view, highly unseemly and unbecoming conduct on your part.
‘You, as an apparently intelligent and sensitive woman, should be deeply ashamed, particularly as you yourself have been racially abused in the past.
‘
Rose, of Sumatra Road, West Hamstead, is studying at the City and Islington College, and hopes to qualify to start a media studies university course.
Recorder Spens accepted the incident was out of character, but added that the police had a difficult enough job without being faced by that kind of behaviour.
