A nurse accused of making his unfortunate patients
A nurse accused of making his unfortunate patients take their drugs mixed with curry spread also coated medication with mustard, the UKCC heard.
Arthur Jacob, a care support worker, also told the committee how McDonnell would walk off without making sure residents took their medication.
‘His whole mannerism was that it was a chore.
‘
The witness said on one occasion he discovered the nurse had gone off leaving a tray of drugs on the table in front of residents.
‘One of the residents assumed it was a sauce bottle and was about to pour it onto his dinner.
‘I just happened to come out and noticed one of the residents tried to pour the medication out.
‘He probably thought it was brown sauce.
It would not be so bad if he (McDonnell) told me to look after it but that was something he did not do.
‘
Mr Jacob said he would often find tablets on the floor when the nurse was on duty.
The witness said resident B would often spit out her medication so McDonnell would go to the fridge to find something to coat it with.
Sometimes he would use sweet items but Mr Jacob added: ‘Unfortunately I have seen him use mustard.
‘
The UKCC will decide on McDonnell’s fate tomorrow.
