A chef who launched a rape attack on a woman as she cowered in a cupboard under the stairs then led police on an incredible car chase was jailed for five years today.

(Tues)

Christopher Wright, 28, repeatedly rammed the car of a police officer escorting witnesses from the Old Bailey – where he was later to be tried.

When officers finally cornered Wright in his wrecked Sierra they found a stash of lethal crack cocaine in the car.

Wright had three children and had been a top chef, working in high class restaurants across London.

But his life began to collapse when he went to see a woman friend at her home in the Hendon area.

‘He was very smelly and dirty,’ the 31-year-old woman recalled.

‘He sat down on the bed and I knew looking at him he was going to try and do something.

‘He reached out for me.

He was getting closer and closer.

I put out my hand to push him away.

‘

‘I said: ”Please don’t do this to me.

” ‘He had done it so many times before.

‘

Wright told her: ‘Shut up – this will be over very quickly’ and ripped off her knickers.

‘He was touching my vagina.

He tried to penetrate me.

Then he ejaculated over my vagina,’ the woman sobbed.

After the incident Wright burst into tears and said: ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to do this but the devil made me do it.

‘

Wright stayed at the house that night and ordered the woman to sit with him on the bed the following morning told her: ‘Come here woman, I want to f*** you.

‘

She ran out the front door but went back into the house when he threatened to harm her family and scuttled under the stairs.

‘He said: ‘What are you doing there.

Come out of there you silly woman,’ the victim said.

‘Then he took his penis out and he was playing with it.

‘He said: ”Come out and get it.

You know you want it.

”

‘He tried to touch my legs.

He was touching my nipples.

He came underneath the stairs.

‘He pulled me by my leg and hair.

He took me by my arms and leg like I was a sack of potatoes and threw me on to the living room floor.

‘He tried to penetrate me but he did not succeed.

He was very frustrated.

Seconds later he ejaculated all over me.

‘

The court heard Wright grabbed cash and a ring from the woman which he sold in a pawn shop.

Later that day PC Simon Bentham was leading a convoy of cars carrying Old Bailey witnesses near Caledonian Road, Islington.

Wright screeched down down the middle of the road and PC Bentham motioned to him to stop, said prosecutor Alison Robbins.

The driver reversed back down Caledonian Road and hit the squad car when it tried to block his path.

He then raced off hitting speeds of 70mph in a 30mph zone, going through four red lights.

Other drivers were forced to swerve out of the way Wright raced across give way junctions.

When he was again blocked in by the patrol car, the driver twice reversed into it.

Armed police were called in to stop the runaway Sierra and officers surrounded the vehicle with their weapons drawn.

Tearful Wright stared down the barrel of a gun and said: ‘I’ve got nothing to live for.

You may as well shoot me.

‘

He admitted dangerous driving and possession of just over a gramme of crack.

The jury had convicted him of two charges of attempted rape in relation to the events of July this year.

The sex attacker of (57) Pilgrims Close, Palmers Green, denied the charges and had sobbed loudly in the dock as the woman gave evidence.

The Common Sergeant of London, Judge Peter Beaumont, told the father-of-two his victim was ‘entitled to feel safe from violence at your hands in her own home.

‘The case is aggravated by the fact that it happened twice and it is not mitigated by you contesting the matters.

That reflects a lack of remorse on your part.

‘She had to give evidence and face assertions on your behalf that she was not telling the truth.

‘That simply compounded the indignities she suffered at your hands.

‘

The judge added that the driving offence put the public at risk and it had to be marked by a consecutive jail term.

Wright thanked the judge after he was jailed for four-and-a-half years and six months consecutive for the driving matter – making five years in total.
