EVANS-LOUDE: ALLEGED KILLER WAS IN CONTACT WITH VICTIM’S DISTRESSED PARTNER

A DJ accused of killing a student and hiding the body in an airing cupboard sent a Facebook message to his victim’s girlfriend telling her: ‘Hope he turns up OK’, a court heard.

Emlyn Evans-Loude, 27, is alleged to have battered 28-year-old Michal (CORR) Mazur with a metal bar before spending a week trying to dispose of evidence.

Evans-Loude, who calls himself ‘Vanilla Ice’, sent a series of Facebook messages to Mr Mazur’s girlfriend Soraya Zorain as she frantically tried to track him down, the Old Bailey was told.

In one exchange he is said to have told her: ‘Hope he turns up OK. If you speak to the police, pass on my number to them and I’ll do anything I can to help out.’

In another, he wrote: ‘I only met Michal that day but he is a good bloke. You will definitely find him.’

Earlier, an acquaintance of Evans-Loude, martial arts expert Robert Scott, repeatedly denied assisting him to cover up evidence of the killing.

The DJ had left a message from Mr Scott, who he had met on Facebook, telling him: ‘I have kind of got something in the house that I need to get rid of and I don’t know what to do with him.’

Kerim Fuad QC, for Evans-Loude, claimed Mr Scott had advised his client to get rid of his sofa and carpets and paint the walls of his basement flat.

He also said Mr Scott had suggested buying quicklime to help dispose of the corpse and given advice about the location of reservoirs in Sussex.

Police interviewed him on suspicion of assisting an offender, but did not bring charges, the court was told.

Mr Scott admitted he had been at the flat for around 40 minutes, but insisted: ‘I was just talking to Emlyn.

‘Just talking about what had been happening. I suggested he should call the police.’

He said Evans-Loude had asked him to help move the body into the bathroom and hire a van for him.

‘We discussed it,’ he said. ‘He asked me for help. I didn’t do it.’

Mr Scott admitted he had not informed the police until they discovered his number in Evans-Loude’s phone records more than a month later.

The alleged killer eventually trussed up his victim in a tarpaulin and dumped him in the airing cupboard, the court was told.

Both Evans-Loude and Mr Mazur were students at London Metropolitan University but had not met until January 10 last year at the bar in the Aldgate campus known as ‘The Hub’.

Evans-Loude is alleged to have killed his victim at his flat in (150) Wallwood Road, Leytonstone, east London, where the pair had returned after drinking with fellow students.

Mr Mazur’s body later found in the airing cupboard at the Leytonstone flat on January 19.

Evans-Loude fled the UK, but returned and was arrested at St David’s railway station in Exeter on the same day.

Evans-Loude, who grew up in Torrington, North Devon, denies murder.

The trial continues.
