Carnival reveller gets shock from Syrian refugee

An Aleppo refugee groped a woman’s breasts at the Notting Hill Carnival, shortly after arriving in the country, a court heard.

Mohammed Al-Youssfi, 23, allegedly held the 46-year-old in a ‘bear hug’ and rubbed himself against her.

Al-Youssfi, from Aleppo, then headbutted a police officer when he tried to arrest him, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard.

Edward Aydin, prosecuting, said three women, including a woman carrying a baby, were leaving the carnival on August 29 when they noticed Al-Youssfi was walking behind them.

‘They stood aside for him to go by them, but he didn’t.

‘He grabs the lady there, the complainant, who is 46.

‘She’s wearing a jumpsuit and he grabs her in a bear hug, then grabs her breasts. He’s wearing a white t-shirt and pink shorts.’

Al-Youssfi then pressed up against her bottom.’

When police were called he allegedly headbutted PC Steve Goodhind.

The prosecutor added: ‘He’s been in this country for a very short time. He’s from Aleppo, in Syria.

Al-Youssfi, of (36) Church Street, Marylebone, is charged with sexual assault and assaulting a police officer in the execution of his duty.

He was remanded in custody to next appear at Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court on 5 October.
