Perverted buglar stripped off and chased resident
A perverted burglar who crept into a teenage girl’s bedroom window and sexually assaulted her as she slept was jailed for more than four years today (tues).
Tommy Hackett, 25, climbed into the house in east London through an open window before ‘stripping off to just his trainers and man-bag’ in the early hours of 28 August.
Hackett wandered around upstairs before making his way into the 16-year-old’s room and groping her bottom as she slept.
He then jumped out of the open window and pulled his clothes back on before making good his escape, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.
Hackett was spotted by neighbours close to the house in the days after the attack before he was finally arrested and picked out at an identification parade.
He claimed he was drunk at the time and said it was an honest mistake as he thought he was climbing into his grandmother’s house nearby.
Hackett has 17 previous convictions including conspiracy to rob and was jailed for three months in April 2016 for sexually assaulting a girl at a Norfolk holiday camp in 2016.
He was on license at the time of his latest offence last August, the court heard.
Judge Sheelagh Canavan said the pervert posed a real threat to society and told Hackett:
‘You were on licence for a sexual assault when you committed another sexual assault that was much more serious.
‘You broke into someone’s home, stripped your clothes off and you decided to sexually assault a girl.
‘She was backing away from you and on the phone to the police but none of that stopped you.
‘You pursued her into the bedroom, closed the door and squeezed her bum really hard.
‘She seems to be remarkably resilient but there must have been sheer terror involved.
‘You pose a serious risk of harm to others and this is an escalating scale of offending.’
Hackett, of Strathmore Gardens, Hornchurch, Essex, admitted sexual assault.
He was sentenced to 49 months in prison with an extended licence period of four years after his release.
