Diamonds stashed behind ceiling panel

A scrap metal dealer was caught with stolen diamonds and emerald earrings stashed behind a removable ceiling panel, a court heard. Charles Matthews, 55, was allegedly found with 50 precious stones and pieces of jewellery secreted above his desk at London City Metals, in Silvertown, east London Detectives searched Matthews’ offices after intelligence suggested he was in possession of precious stones taken in a raid at a London jewellery store back in 2010.
