Trial for man accused of knife rampage
An alleged knifeman accused of stabbing five strangers in a spate of random attacks that left one man paralysed will stand trial in March.
Jason Kakaire, 30, is accused of attempting to murder five people in four days across Edmonton, north London, between 30 March and 2 April by stabbing them in the back.
Kakaire, of Cameron Close, Edmonton, allegedly stabbed three of his victims in one day.
He knifed Ayfer Bektas on 30 March in Aberdeen Road, it is claimed.
On the following day he is said to have attacked Thom Langley in Park Avenue, Haile Kubrom in Fore Street and Sujel Uddin in Folkestone Road.
His final alleged victim was Suleyman Karayapi, who was knifed on 2 April in Aberdeen Road.
Kakaire appeared at the Old Bailey this morning via video link from Broadmoor Hospital.
Wearing a green sweatshirt and grey tracksuit bottoms, he spoke only to confirm his name, age and British nationality.
The Recorder of London, Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC, fixed his trial to begin at the same court on 2 March next year.
Kakaire is expected to be arraigned on five counts of attempted murder, five alternatives of wounding with intent and five of having a bladed article at the next hearing on 10 October.
He remains at Broadmoor.
