Becker trial off till March
Tennis legend Boris Becker’s trial for hiding his financial assets after declaring himself bankrupt has been delayed until March next year.
Becker, 53, is accused of concealing his Wimbledon trophy, a Chelsea flat, two German properties and approximately £1.8m when he declared himself broke.
He is also accused of not disclosing a £620,000 debt and bank accounts holding £1.2million as well as his stake of 75,000 shares in AI firm Breaking Data Corp.
Becker was due to face a jury on Monday (13), but has fired his solicitors after a dispute about payment of legal fees.
Southwark crown court heard Becker was required to inform the Insolvency Service of his destination 48 hours in advance before travelling abroad, but has had that restriction tightened after he left Ibiza in the middle of his Mediterranean holiday.
Prosecutor Rebecca Chalkley said: ’We found out from the press, actually, that he had gone on from Ibiza to Mallorca.
‘If he is moving from island to island, we would like to know where he is.’
Becker, of Montevetro, Battersea Church Road, Battersea, denies seven charges of concealing property, four counts of omitting statements, two counts of removing property required by the receiver, five counts of failing to disclose details of his estate and one count of concealing debt.
He was released on conditional bail with requirements to live and sleep at his Battersea address and notify the Insolvency Service, who prosecute the case, at least 48 hours before travelling abroad, including details of all countries and islands he will be visiting.
Becker is also required to provide his solicitors with his passport when not travelling.
He is due to appear at Southwark Crown Court on 21 March for a four week trial.
