Scaffolder stormed Wembley gates to see Champions League final

A scaffolder who stormed the gates at Wembley Stadium for the Champions League final was fined £500.

Ryan McCormack, 33, travelled down to Wembley hoping to see the game between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund on 1 June.

Unable to get his hands on one of the cherished 90,000 tickets for the showpiece event, McCormack jumped through the barriers in a bid to watch the game.

McCormack was stopped before a ball was kicked after being caught on CCTV.

The Glaswegian, who had been drinking, did not resist his arrest, Westminster Magistrates Court.

He admitted one count of obtaining services dishonestly according to the Fraud Act of 2006.

Defending him, Julian Atlee said: ‘He came down believing he would be able to buy a ticket, unfortunately he couldn’t and very unwisely, he jumped through.

‘He was caught on CCTV, there was no question of him getting involved in violent behaviour.

‘When he was arrested, he made a full admission to the investigating officer.’

McCormack, of Hamilton Hill Road, Glasgow, was ordered to pay a £500 fine along with a £200 victim surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs.

He must pay the total of £785 by 8 September but a collection order has been put in place should he fail to pay.

Los Blancos went on to secure their 15th Champions League title, more than any other team in the history of the competition, thanks to goals from Dani Carvajal, who will feature for Spain in the 2024 Euros final on Sunday and Brazil star Vinicius Jr.
