Immigration officers who ‘stole cash from boat migrants’ face 2028 trial

A group of immigration officers accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of pounds from small boat migrants will face a two month trial in January 2028. Besmir Matera, 36, Jack Mitchell, 33, Lee-Ann Evanson, 42, John Bernthal, 53, and Ben Edwardes, 45, were charged with conspiracy to steal after a probe was launched by Home Office anti-corruption investigators.
