A pnds stlg 1.
9 million confiscation probe into a police couple behind a massive fraud has been put off after the hearing hit a snag.
Police inspector Anne O’Grady became a master of disguise to con her tenants and mortgage companies out of the cash.
O’Grady, 40, used wigs, props and forgeries to create women who never were – fronts for the fraud she carried out with husband and ex special constable Eugene, 42.
The pair were both jailed for two years in March but since then investigators have uncovered a web of bogus mortgage applications and property fraud.
And a confiscation hearing was ordered to try to claw back their ill-gotten gains.
Inner London Crown Court heard bank account details and property valuations revealed the crooked couple netted between pnds stlg 1,861,000 and pnds stlg 1,883,000 in the sting.
But the probe hit the buffers when their barrister said he could no longer represent them.
The couple are now demanding that a QC take on the case and Judge Simon Goldstein will now hear the matter between 10 and 18 September at the Central London County Court.
After the swindle was uncovered investigations showed the O’Gradys had a pnds stlg 672,000 fortune.
in realisable assets.
But the true figure could be much higher because they set up four secret overseas accounts based on Guernsey and the Isle of Man to hide more cash.
Anne O’Grady, who last shared a property with her husband at (2) Cannons Lane, Banstead, Surrey, were convicted by a jury of a number of charges including theft and obtaining property by deception.
