A psychiatric patient at a London hospital was fou
A psychiatric patient at a London hospital was found dead at
her home, an inquest was told today.
Twenty-eight-year-old Paivi Peters was discovered hanging by
a piece of rope on February 19, 1993.
She had told staff at Guy’s Hospital she was going shopping.
But when she didn’t return, her husband alerted the warden,
who supervised the apartment block where she lived.
She was found hanging in the kitchen.
A chair had been kicked away from under her.
Southwark Coroners Court was told the deceased had suffered
from paranoid schizophrenia since 1983.
Her family said she had complained of hearing voices in her
head, but had felt better in recent months.
She was receiving medical treatment at Guy’s Hospital.
The post mortem revealed the deceased, of Crucifix Lane,
Southwark died from injuries consistent with hanging.
Recording a verdict that she killed herself, Sir Montague
Levine, said: ‘What a terrible, terrible tragedy this is.
‘
He said the decision to take her own life was shrouded in
mystery.
