A rapist who preyed on a prostitute believing he would
‘get away’ with it has been jailed for four years and six
months by an Old Bailey judge.

Karl Young, 26, attacked the pnds stlg 20 a time hooker
in his car and drove awy thinking he would never be caught.

But he was snared after the quick-witted victim
scratched his car registration number into a packet of condoms.

Judge Alexander Hutchinson, QC, told him: ‘You abused
this woman because she was a prostitute.

‘You thought you would get away with it and you did not
have the honesty to plead guilty and avoid putting her through
the ordeal of giving evidence.

Married man Young picked up the 33-year-old woman near
her Caledonian Road, Islington, home on February 20 last year.

Thinking he was a normal client, she allowed him to
drive her to a dark alleyway.

But he told her: ‘I’m not going to pay you – ever.

‘
The woman sobbed in the witness box as she told the
jury: ‘He wedged himself on top of me, blocking the door.

‘He was holding my wrists.

I knew when he did that
something was going to go wrong.

‘I started to cry.

I was trying to struggle but he was
too strong.

‘I told him I was pregnant.

I wasn’t, but I used it in
the hope that he would get off.

‘
But Young ignored her protests and raped her as she
wept.

He then coolly drove her back to Caledonian Road, before
disappearing into the night, unaware that the woman had scratched
his car number with her Afro comb.

Young denied rape, claiming the woman had consented to
sex, but the jury unanimously convicted him.

The court heard Young, an unemployed plumber of
Hartington Road, Walthamstow, has no previous convictions for
sex crimes.

Mr Richard Ray-Crosby, defending, said: ‘This was a
normal prostitute client transaction that went badly wrong.

‘
He asked the judge to be as lenient as possible.

Young was visibly shocked as he was led to the cells.
