A university student accused of stabbing his house
A university student accused of stabbing his housemate 80 times faces a murder retrial next month after an Old Bailey jury failed to reach a verdict.
Saif Mahmood, 22, was knifed in the heart and through the skull with such force that the blade broke in half.
Adam Davies, 20, was alleged to have carried out the frenzied attack at the maisonette he shared with Mr Mahmood in Uxbridge, Middlesex.
Michael Worsley, QC, prosecuting, alleges that Davies killed Mr Mahmood in a ‘frenzy of passion’ after they returned home from a party at Brunel University.
But Davies, who was studying English and History at the university, claimed a masked intruder carried out the murder in the early hours of January 17 this year.
The jury of six men and six women was discharged from reaching a verdict after deliberating for nearly 16 hours.
Davies, of Sergeants Close, Uxbridge, Middlesex, had denies murder.
The retrial is due to start on November 24.
