Alleged killer Barry George took a photograph of a house just four doors from the spot where Jill Dando was murdered, the Old Bailey heard today.

He claimed the building was his doctors surgery but he couldn’t remember the last time he was there.

He said he visited the surgery at 21 Gowan Avenue, just yards from BBC presenter’s doorstep where she was shot at pointblank, because he suffered from ‘medical ailments’.

Jurors continued to watch the video of him being quizzed by detectives following his arrest in May, last year.

George, 41, who denies murdering 37-year-old Jill, also revealed that he was married to a Japanese girl around 10 years ago.

He was asked about the photograph, which had been seized during a raid on his home, and if he knew which street it was in.

When George claimed he didn’t know, Detective Michael Snowden said: ‘This is Gowan Avenue, four doors away from where Miss Dando was murdered.

Are you saying you can’t remember where your GP’s surgery was.

‘I must say at this point, that is a lie.

George raised his voice and announced: ‘I do not recall sir.

How many times do I have to emphasise myself to you or assert myself.

That’s the truth.

Earlier he told the detective he had married a Japanese girl named Itsuko Toide in a registry office.

He said they met when he worked as a volunteer in a Japanese community centre close to where she lived in central London.

He said they had married in the early 90s and separated soon after.

The court has heard how a minute particle of gunfire residue was found in the pocket of his three-quarter length overcoat which was also recovered during a search on his flat in Crookham Road, Fulham.

Asked when he bought the dark blue cashmere coat, George said he bought it to wear for his wedding.

George denies murder and the trial continues.
