Brave multiple sclerosis sufferer Mrs Rae Blight,

Brave multiple sclerosis sufferer Mrs Rae Blight, who died
in a fall, had donated her main organs for transplant, an inquest
was told on Wednesday.

Housing officer Mrs Blight, 42, of Ferndale Road, Clapham,
had struggled against the incurable condition for more than
a decade, said common law husband Michael Beard.

He described to the Southwark inquest how he had returned
home with her from hospital physiotherapy on February 7.

She was in a hurry to get out of the car to get inside
their home to go to the toilet.

Sadly, as she climbed a flight
of five steps to the front door she fell backwards and struck her
head.

‘Normally I would have been behind her, but I was getting
the shopping out of the car,’ said her husband, who constantly
looked after her.

He did not realise she was in such a hurry
to get to the toilet.

A pathologist told the inquest that her MS was ‘extensive’.

She had died of her head injury a week after the fall and her
wish to donate both her liver and kidneys had been taken up,
he said.

Coroner Sir Montague Levine remarked: ‘How MS starts and develops
and from whence it comes is very much in the realms of God.

There is
no known definitive reason or cure for it, despite the enormous
investigation and research that goes into it around the world.

‘
Verdict: accidental death.
