Cop who grabbed drinker by throat loses his appeal


A police officer who took part in an ‘unnecessary violent episode’ in which his colleague clobbered a Wetherspoons drinker over the head with his baton saw his appeal thrown out. Pc Archie Payne, 28, was convicted of common assault after he grabbed Scott Rooney, 27, by the throat and threw him to the ground. He has since the force and now works as a railway driver.
