COUCHINHO: GYM PERVERT FACES JAIL

A gym-member who tried to take photos of a female doctor showering at a sports centre is facing jail.

Agostinho Couchinho, 30, was caught holding his mobile phone as he spied on the woman at the Queen Mother’s Sports Centre, in Victoria, central London.

He was convicted of voyeurism and trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence after a jury rejected his claims he had stumbled into the female changing rooms because the men’s were closed.

Couchinho was spotted by the medic after she noticed a shadow through the frosted glass of a shower cubicle.

He fled the changing rooms before handing himself into police in a bid to protest his innocence.

Couchinho told officers he had ventured into the women’s changing rooms because he felt ill and had not been able to access the men’s.

He denied trying to take photos of the woman and said he was holding his phone because he had made a call.

The centre manager reviewed CCTV footage from the building.

He was seen using a swipe card registered in Couchinho’s name to enter the gym.

Couchinho was then seen going into the male changing rooms and the female changing rooms twice between 6.19pm and 7.11pm.

He was seen leaving the female changing rooms at around 7.14pm.

Couchinho was later picked out of a video identity parade by the alleged victim.

No photos or films from the changing rooms were recovered from the handset, the court heard.

Couchinho, of (Flat 47) Longleat House, (18) Rampayne Street, in Pimlico, central London, denied trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence and voyeurism.

He was remanded on bail ahead of his sentencing on October 14.
