A dozy shoplifter hit on a brilliant ruse to dodge responsibility for his latest spate of stealing – he   pretended he was asleep when police tried to question him. Karl Allsopp, 36, initially refused to leave his cell after officers arrested him for 16 thefts. Then he appeared to drift off as they fired questions at him.
