Dr David Westbroek confessed he had lied on his CV

Dr David Westbroek confessed he had lied on his CV to give him a better chance of getting the job.

He said he was worried about looking after his family because his four-year-old son was having trouble at school.

Westbroek had previously worked privately at the Wellington and London Bridge Hospitals between August 2000 and June 2001 before applying to the Queen Victoria.

But he claimed he had worked at The University of Nijmegen Teaching Hospital in Holland during this time.

He told the committee: ‘It was a misunderstanding.

I was under the impression that having worked for a year in the private sector would compromise my position to apply for positions in the health service.

‘

Westbroek admitted he had also given a false date of birth and wrongly claimed to have been a member of the Royal College of Surgeons.

He told the committee: ‘It was wrong, I was dishonest and I was not trustworthy.

‘At this time it was during the course of my surgical training and I wasn’t always at home.

‘My son was born prematurely and my wife was working.

He has had difficulties at school coping and my job away from him was making him have problems.

‘

Westbroek said he many other hospitals had turned him down after being sacked by the Queen Victoria.

‘Subsequently to being dismissed I was unable to work.

In light of this pending hearing I was unable to secure a position.

‘

He has applied to take a degree course in medical ethics at Kings College Hospital.

The hearing continues.
