He made jewellery from poached elephant hair

A jeweller who sold luxury pieces made of poached Asian elephant hair has been spared jail. Rajtharan Mahalingam, 40, traded ornaments containing the smuggled rarity at his shop in Ealing Road, Wembley between 2017 and 15 May 2018. Forensic analysis of trinkets seized in a search on the premises revealed DNA matched the profiles of both African and Asian elephants. Mahalingam denied profiting from the sale of the endangered species but was convicted by a jury at Harrow Crown Court….
