Horrendous attack to woman’s face and neck in London park

A knifeman slashed a woman face and neck after she accused him of biting her friend, a court heard.

Peter Harvey, 59, allegedly tried to kill Tia Marie Carvey in the frenzied knife attack in a park in Tottenham, north London, on 18 May last year.

Ms Carvey had left her home and cycled to Lordship Lane Recreation Ground to meet her friend Cheryl Watson, the Old Bailey heard.

‘She cycled down to three fallen trees and saw her friend Cheryl along with others,’ said Melissa Garner, prosecuting.

‘She described the afternoon as bright and sunny and they had alcoholic drinks with friends, roll-ups and played with the children.

‘There came a point during the evening when she felt she wanted to leave.

‘She recalled Cheryl pointed out a male who on a previous occasion had bitten her.

‘Ms Carvey pointed her finger to the male and asked if he had bitten her friend.

‘He got embarrassed and awkward. When she was talking to the biter she heard a deep voice to her left saying “I’ve had enough of this.”

‘She was slightly confused as she wasn’t sure what this male had had enough of.

‘She said to the police she turned to her left and saw a movement of something very fast go up in the air. She said it was a green colour, a fast flash and arms were then above her head.

‘The knife was used to slice her neck and parts of her face.

‘She told the police she heard the name Peter being shouted. The next thing she remembered was waking up in hospital.

‘Police officers found Ms Carvey in complete agony on the floor sodden in blood shouting loudly and incoherently.

‘There was an extremely deep wound to her neck, slicing through to the cartilages.

‘She was sedated and taken to Royal London hospital.

‘She had wounds to the forehead, nose and upper lip. The hospital found she had machete-like wounds.

‘She remained sedated for two days until 20 May.’

Ms Garner said Ms Carvey’s friends refused to give statements to police after the incident.

Harvey, of Rothbury Walk, Tottenham denies attempted murder, a lesser charge of wounding with intent and possession of a knife.
