HOSIER:JAIL FOR BANDIT WHO POSED AS COP AFTER ROBBING HIGH ROLLER
A robber who preyed on a high roller as he left a casino and posed as a police officer to stop members of the public from intervening was jailed for five years.
Terrence Hosier, 30, and an unknown accomplice ambushed Imran Khan, who had just enjoyed a successful night’s gambling in London’s West End.
The pair chased him along Shaftesbury Avenue, before beating him to the ground and robbing him.
When passers-by tried to help the victim Hosier flashed his passport and shouted ‘I’m police.’
Fortunately a real police officer spotted the incident and raced after Hosier to apprehend him.
But his accomplice escaped with £700 in cash.
Hosier was jailed for five years after he was convicted of robbery.
Southwark Crown Court heard Mr Ahmad had spent the night gambling at The Casino at The Empire in Leicester Squar.
He left with a ‘large sum of cash’ in the early hours of January 15 this year and was making his way home when he was jumped by Hosier and the second male.
Judge David Higgins told Hosier: ‘You attacked him from the rear while your accomplice attacked him from the front.
‘Your blows knocked him to the ground whereupon you both kicked him and your accomplice tried to take money from him.
‘Somehow he managed to escape into Shaftesbury Avenue, having left a shoe behind.
‘You both followed him and revived the attack which involved a repeat of the previous violence.
‘You held the public at bay by flashing your passport and saying ‘I’m police’ or word to that effect.
‘By now your victim was exhausted and you accomplice managed to steal £700 and then he made off.
‘You were not so lucky and you were chased and arrested by a policewoman.’
Jailing Hosier for five years the judge added: ‘What you did that day was despicable and utterly antisocial and fear of violence of that kind eats at the very fabric of our society.’
Hosier, of (12) Holcote Close, Belvedere, Kent, was convicted by a jury of robbery and impersonating a police officer earlier this year.
No further penalty was imposed for the second offence.
