TEENAGER ACCUSED OF KNIFING MAN TO DEATH IN BETTING SHOP REMANDED
A teenager appeared at the Old Bailey today (Tues) accused of stabbing a man to death in a betting shop.
The 17 year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, allegedly murdered Jerry Iyiku (CORR) on July 19.
The victim was set upon in the E Coomes bookmakers in Old Kent Road, Peckham, southeast London, by a gang of up to eight men who entered the shop at 7.50pm.
He received numerous injuries in a ‘serious and sustained attack’, the court heard.
The cause of death was a stab wound to the chest which penetrated the aorta.
The youth, wearing a grey sweatshirt, appeared via videolink from prison.
He spoke only to confirm his name during a brief hearing before the Recorder of London, Judge Peter Beaumont QC.
No bail application was made on his behalf and the teenager, from Peckham, was remanded in custody to appear at Camberwell Youth Court tomorrow (Sept 28).
