The Nolan family feel their GP has failed them twice with cancer.

Both mum Patricia and grandmother Elizabeth Broadhurst, 76, died from the disease without Dr Gupta making a diagnosis.

The family, from Harrogate Drive in Everton, had just come to terms with their gran’s death in March 1998 when Patricia discovered a lump above her ribcage.

But they claim Dr Gupta merely told her it might be a bone protruding from her ribs and did not examine it herself.

By August, Patricia, a school dinner lady at Anfield Primary School, was dead.

Today daughter Anne Nolan, 31, told how they lost all trust in the man who was responsible for their health.

She said: ‘We made a complaint about both my mother and grandmother.

‘There’s no doubt my nan was going to die but she could have been made a lot more comfortable.

‘He just said her blood pressure was not high enough and gave her medication.

In fact it just made her worse.

‘We got her put into hospital and she died on March 22, 1998.

‘Two days later my mum discovered a lump on her ribcage.

It was about the size of half a golf-ball.

You could not miss this lump.

‘

But it was left for Anne herself to take Patricia to the Royal Liverpool Hospital in May after Dr Gupta arranged an appointment four months away in August.

They received a phone call from the Marie Curie Centre on August 17.

Anne said: ‘They said we needed to go there straight away.

When we got there my mum was unconscious and at three o’clock she was dead.

‘This was only three days after the appointment Dr Gupta had arranged.

‘

She added: ‘Why should it be left for the families of the patients themselves.

We are not qualified we cannot do a prognosis ourselves.

‘It is just totally unbelievable it has happened to another family as well.

I certainly didn’t wish the last three years on anybody.

‘

Anne, her dad John, a 55 year-old taxi-driver, and brother Martin, 24, are now carrying on their lives without the mother who ‘lived for her family.

‘

But they are appalled with the ‘slap on the wrist’ which the doctor received from the committee.

‘He has been responsible for the death of two women that to me is all wrong.

All he is going to get is “You are a bad boy.
