Tube passenger pretended to be cop

A Tube passenger caught posing as a police officer was warned he could face jail.

Jaswinder Singh, 54, was caught masquerading as an officer at Old Street underground station on 2 December last year.

Singh was due to be sentenced at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, but Judge Alexander Jacobs was told he had contracted Coronavirus for the second time.

Judge Jacobs said: ‘I have seen the screenshot of a February positive test. So he’s contracted Covid 19 again.

‘I am going to adjourn the case until 31 March. If there is a further application to adjourn because Mr Singh is not fit enough to attend the court physically, some medical evidence must be submitted.’

The judge told the fake police officer, who appeared in court via video-link: ‘Mr Singh, I will adjoin this case then.

‘If you are not here when your case is called on for no good reason you may well go to prison. I’m giving you no indication as to what the sentence will be.

‘A custodial sentence may well be possible.’

Singh, of Tooting, southwest London, has admitted impersonating a police constable.

According to the charge he ‘impersonated a special constable or a member of a police forceon a train at Old Street Underground Station’.

Sentencing was adjouned until 31 March.
