Wine fraudster who skipped bail has £1.2m in assets

A wine fraudster who fled the UK days before he was convicted of running a huge tax fiddle making more than £38m has assets worth £1.2m, a hearing was told. Livio Mazzarello, 63, skipped bail during his trial after sending an email addressed to ‘the most illustrious judge’ claiming he needed to go to Italy to see his mother. Mazzarello was found guilty of fraudulent evasion of duty, fraudulent evasion of VAT and money laundering, and jailed for 14 years…
