Dear Anthony,
Thank-you for your application for the post of trainee crime reporter as advertised in last week’s Guardian.
We are expanding London’s top court agency and are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated trainee who will become a senior reporter with this company.
The vacancy has arisen because our last apprentice has moved to the Press Association after joining us for eight months without relevant qualifications or newspaper experience.
His replacement will spend six months as a trainee, working at the Old Bailey with some of the best crime reporters in the business.
He or she will be shown the basics of story writing techniques which apply to all news articles.
Those applicants without shorthand will be expected to reach an acceptable standard during the six month period.
The apprenticeship can be terminated at any time by the trainee or by Central News.
If the trainee has not attained the skills required at the end of six months, the period may be extended or he or she may not be offered further employment.
As an apprenticeship, this position is not well paid.
It is however, an outstanding opportunity for those determined enough to achieve a career in journalism.
If you are interested, please give me a call and we will arrange a day out for you at the world’s most famous court.
Yours faithfully,
Guy Toyn
News Editor.
