Two bag thieves accused of killing TV costume desi
Two bag thieves accused of killing TV costume designer Liz Sherlock were found by police hiding under a bed, the Old Bailey heard today.
(Mon)
Jackie Moorehouse, 24, and Mark Woolley, 36, are accused of running over the 42-year-old after stealing her bag outside Euston train station.
Today (Mon) jurors heard that the pair were discovered by police searching a house in Kilburn connected to Moorehouse on April 18 this year.
WPC Diane Black said she was checking an upstairs room at the address in Broadhurst Gardens, when she glimpsed something under the bed.
‘As I entered I was shouting: ‘Police.
‘
‘I noticed the bottom half of a leg slid under the bottom part of the bunk bed.
‘I shouted again saying: ‘Police.
Get out from under the bed.
‘
WPC Black said she called for assistance from colleagues as she grabbed hold of Moorehouse by the leg and an arm.
‘I realised it was a female with long hair face down under the bed.
‘
Moorehouse made no comment when told she was under arrest, the court heard.
‘She was just staring at me,’ added the officer.
WPC Black told jurors: ‘I was concerned there might be someone else under the bed.
‘
She then pulled out her baton and began prodding under the bed.
‘I felt the end of the baton connect with something soft.
‘Looking under the bed I saw someone else lying face down with their hands over their head.
‘
Colleagues then detained Woolley while WPC Black searched Moorehouse.
WPC Black said while she was checking her pockets Moorehouse asked: ‘Have you arrested me for murder?’
‘I replied: ‘Yes.
‘
‘She said: ‘What murder? Nothing to do with me.

The court has heard how Mrs Sherlock had been drinking coffee with her husband Peter, 48, at Euston Station while waiting for a train last Easter Monday.
They had intended to travel up to Wigan for her father’s 80th birthday celebration when her handbag was snatched from their table at the station cafe.
Mrs Sherlock chased the thief as she got away in the car driven by an accomplice, it is alleged.
But the designer was killed after being run over by the couple’s Ford Fiesta getaway car, jurors have heard.
Unemployed Moorehouse, of Linkwood Walk, Islington, has admitted theft of Mrs Sherlock’s shoulder bag and contents, but she denies murder and manslaughter.
Plasterer Woolley, who was living with her, admits manslaughter but denies murder.
The trial continues.
